Why do they call it Good Friday?
Someone asked this, and we talked briefly through the answer. I found myself recalling Isaiah 53.
I was able to recite part of verse five:
But he was pierced for our transgressions,
he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was upon him,
and by his wounds we are healed.
I read it this morning on my own. I read all of Isaiah 53. It’s difficult to read. In fact, while reading, it’s a relief to know how it turned out, that He is risen.
May you have a reflective, powerful Easter weekend.
I’m not going to post this weekend, but I’ll be back on Monday, my friends.
Happy Easter–He is risen indeed!

Easter is my favorite holiday because it celebrates the magnificent gift our Lord and Savior so selflessly gave to us … all of us!
I hope you have a beautiful Easter, too!

Did you see “The Passion”? Watching that movie made me wonder what was “good” about that Friday, too. It did help to know how it ends – with the resurrection.
How amazing He went through all of that for us!

It is weird to say, but it is so GOOD! I’m glad we celebrate what seems to be a terrible day as a GOOD day. Only God could turn a symbol of death (the cross) into a symbol for life! He is risen, indeed!

You all added so much energy to this!
I read through the Garden of Gethsemane passage alone on Friday and then again with the kids when we opened the “praying hands” egg of the Resurrection Eggs. Jesus knew it was going to be bad. Very bad. Horrible. “If possible, let this cup pass….”
For Jesus: Bad Friday.
“If it is not possible…unless I drink it, may your will be done.” And it wasn’t possible unless Jesus drank it, so the Father’s will was done. And Jesus suffered and died, taking the punishment that brought us peace; the wounds that brought us healing.
For us: Good Friday.
Jenny (acoachforlife) wrote a really nice Thank You letter to Jesus that you can read here:

Seems like a great exercise I could do every Easter weekend. Thanks for the inspiration, Jenny.

I blogged about why Good Friday is so good last week. Truly it’s the high point of the Christian calendar I think!
