After reading this week’s ”eating locally” crepe-inspiring post on my blog, my friend Linda sent me a link she was sure I already knew.
But I didn’t!
Check it out–it’s called “Local Harvest.”
I’ve been poking around, and it offers an excellent search feature to help you locate local farmers, farmers’ markets, food co-ops and the like. On the home page, you can click on the map (or type in your zip code), and up comes a list of places you can visit for locally raised meats and produce.
Pretty slick.
I’ve jotted down some places I can visit even in the winter for local foodstuffs. Now that the farmer’s market shut down for the season, I thought I was sunk. There are many more possibilities for shopping locally year round than I was aware of–perhaps you’ll find some hidden resources near you, as well.
Many thanks to an alert reader and good friend.

Yes!! Eating local is the way to go!!! Good for you! Good luck on your first winter attempting this – it really makes it more of a habit than simply summer farmer’s marketing does!
Bon appetit!

Great idea.
We have farmers nearby who advertise in the local paper.
It pays of for them because they won’t get so many people asking, and when they are clear about opening hours they can sell a lot without much effort.
Have a great week.

Stacey: I’m eager to check out the year-round market. Perhaps I’ll have an interesting enough experience to blog about it? We shall see.
Everyone else: I hope you can find something neat and unexpectedly helpful near your own home. I like the idea of supporting local farmers as much as minimizing fuel consumption.
